Beijing experienced a major tourism boost during the 2025 Golden Week holiday. The city hosted 119,000 overseas arrivals, a 48% increase compared to the previous year. Tourist spending also rose sharply, reaching 1.23 billion yuan, up 54.1% year-on-year.

The surge reflects growing international interest in Beijing as a travel destination. Cultural attractions, historical landmarks, and festive events during Golden Week attracted large crowds of both domestic and foreign visitors.

Hotels and hospitality services reported high occupancy rates. Many hotels introduced special packages and promotions to accommodate the influx of tourists. Travel agencies noted strong demand for guided tours and sightseeing programs.

Transportation services also saw increased usage. Airports, public transit, and taxi services reported a noticeable rise in passenger traffic. Airlines offered additional flights to handle the surge in international travelers during the peak holiday period.

Analysts attribute the growth to several factors, including China’s visa policies, improved tourism infrastructure, and global marketing campaigns. The Golden Week holiday, traditionally one of the busiest travel periods, amplified these effects.

Tourist spending growth indicates that visitors not only traveled in larger numbers but also engaged more in shopping, dining, and entertainment activities. This surge contributed significantly to the local economy and supported small businesses and service providers.

Cultural attractions, such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and Summer Palace, experienced record attendance. Many tourists praised the well-organized events and festive atmosphere, making Beijing a top choice for holiday travel.

Officials emphasized that safety, convenience, and accessibility were key priorities. Measures were implemented to manage crowds, ensure smooth traffic, and maintain high standards of service throughout the city.

The Golden Week boom also highlights Beijing’s role in China’s broader tourism recovery. With international arrivals and spending trending upward, the city is poised to maintain strong tourism performance in the months ahead.

Experts suggest that continued promotion of cultural heritage, combined with international-friendly policies, will further solidify Beijing’s appeal. The success of the 2025 Golden Week demonstrates the potential for sustained growth in both domestic and international tourism.

Beijing’s performance during Golden Week showcases the city’s ability to attract visitors from around the world while boosting economic activity. With 2025 figures exceeding expectations, the capital continues to strengthen its position as a leading global destination.
