China’s inbound tourism surged dramatically in the first half of 2025, thanks to its expanded visa-free entry policy. The policy, now applicable to citizens from 74 countries, contributed to a 53.9% increase in international visitors, totaling 13.64 million travelers. The growth highlights China’s efforts to reopen its borders and attract global tourists after years of travel restrictions. Easing visa requirements has made the country a more accessible destination for vacationers, business travelers, and cultural explorers alike.

China’s visa-free entry initiative allows eligible travelers to visit major cities and scenic regions without lengthy visa procedures. Travelers from Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania can now enjoy simplified entry, boosting the country’s tourism appeal. Industry experts attribute the surge to the convenience and cost savings associated with visa-free travel. Removing visa barriers has made China a top choice for international tourists, encouraging spontaneous trips and longer stays.

Cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xi’an have seen a remarkable rise in tourist activity. Historical sites, cultural landmarks, and urban attractions are experiencing renewed interest. Local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and transportation services, report higher demand, supporting regional economic growth. Tourist hotspots have also implemented enhanced services for international visitors, including multilingual guides and digital booking platforms, further improving the travel experience and encouraging repeat visits.

The increase in tourism has a direct effect on the national economy. Tourism revenue rose sharply in major cities, benefiting small and medium enterprises and creating new job opportunities. Sustained visa-free policies could help China reclaim its position as one of the world’s top travel destinations. In addition, the surge in visitors encourages cultural exchange and international cooperation. Tourists gain firsthand experience of China’s heritage, food, and traditions, while local communities benefit from increased engagement with global travelers.

Authorities plan to expand promotional campaigns to attract more tourists from countries newly included in the visa-free list. Partnerships with international travel agencies, airlines, and tour operators are being strengthened to simplify travel planning. Experts predict that continued policy support and improved tourism infrastructure could lead to even higher growth rates in the coming years. China’s focus on sustainable tourism, digital services, and unique cultural experiences is expected to maintain the upward trend.

Tourists have praised the ease of travel and hospitality in China. Reviews frequently mention the convenience of visa-free entry, the quality of accommodations, and the variety of attractions available. Many visitors plan return trips, indicating strong potential for long-term growth. The combination of relaxed entry rules, improved services, and diverse destinations positions China as a competitive player in global tourism. Travelers now have more reasons than ever to explore the country’s cities, heritage sites, and natural landscapes.

The first half of 2025 demonstrates the tangible benefits of China’s visa-free policy, setting the stage for a promising year for tourism. With continued efforts to enhance visitor experiences, the country aims to attract millions more travelers while supporting economic development and cultural exchange.
