De Niro Warns: “He Will Never Leave”
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has once again spoken out against Donald Trump, warning that the president “will never leave” office unless Americans act. Appearing on MS NOW ahead of Trump’s State of the Union address, De Niro said voters must “make him leave,” arguing that talk of nationalizing elections should be taken seriously.
The veteran actor also attended a counter-event, State of the Swamp, at the National Press Club, where he described feeling “betrayed” by his country and accused its leadership of serving “a handful of dishonest and greedy and cruel authoritarians.”
Trump Fires Back Online
Trump responded angrily on his Truth Social platform following his address to Congress. In a lengthy post, he suggested that several of his critics — including Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib — should be deported, despite both being American citizens.
He also singled out De Niro, calling him “deranged” and accusing him of making statements that were “seriously criminal.” Trump mocked the actor’s emotional remarks and compared him to comedian Rosie O’Donnell, whom he has criticized repeatedly in the past. Last year, Trump even floated the idea of revoking O’Donnell’s US citizenship, despite longstanding Supreme Court precedent preventing such action.
Polls Reflect Public Concerns
The political back-and-forth comes as new polling paints a mixed picture of public opinion. A Reuters/Ipsos survey found that six in ten Americans believe Trump has become more erratic with age, while a large majority said political leaders in Washington are too old to effectively represent the country. The average age in the Senate is 64, compared with 58 in the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, a separate Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos poll reported that 39 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance in office. The White House dismissed criticism of the president’s conduct, calling negative polling narratives “fake and desperate.”
