Libyan media outlets have reported that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed near the city of Zintan in western Libya. Abdullah Othman, Saif al-Islam’s political adviser, confirmed the death in a brief statement posted on Facebook, offering no further information about the circumstances or the identities of those involved. His French lawyer, Marcel Ceccaldi, told AFP that the attackers have not yet been identified. Ceccaldi added that he had been warned roughly ten days earlier by a close associate of Saif al-Islam that there were growing concerns about his personal security.

In an official statement, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s political team confirmed his death and said preparations were under way to retrieve his body. No further information has been released as authorities and associates await clarity on the events surrounding the killing.
