Afghanistan announced on Sunday that its soldiers killed 58 Pakistani troops during overnight border clashes.
Officials accused Pakistan of repeatedly violating Afghan territory and airspace, prompting a “retaliatory operation.”
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghan forces seized 25 Pakistani army posts and wounded 30 soldiers.
He confirmed that all Afghan borders are “under full control” and that illegal crossings have been largely stopped.
The Defence Ministry stated that Afghan forces “successfully defended national sovereignty” in the clashes.
It warned Pakistan against further incursions, vowing a strong military response to any new violations.

    Border Conflict Sparks Rising Hostility

Earlier in the week, Afghan officials accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and an eastern marketplace.
Pakistan has not acknowledged responsibility for those airstrikes, which allegedly killed several civilians.
Islamabad often targets sites inside Afghanistan it claims shelter militants, mainly in remote mountain zones.
Both countries have previously traded fire along the volatile border separating their forces.
The Taliban leadership insists it will not tolerate breaches of Afghan land or airspace.

    Regional Strains and Political Fallout

Pakistan accused Afghanistan of sheltering the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which carries out deadly attacks.
Kabul denied the allegations, stating it prevents any militant use of Afghan territory against neighbouring states.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed his army “destroyed Afghan posts” and “forced their retreat.”
Pakistani officials released videos they said showed damaged Afghan checkpoints, though reporters could not verify them.
Islamabad said its troops “neutralised more than 200 Taliban and allied fighters,” with many others injured.
Security officials added that Afghan soldiers opened fire across several areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
These violent exchanges have intensified regional tensions, threatening further instability along the Afghan-Pakistani frontier.
