A drone launched from Yemen struck Eilat, wounding at least 22 people, local medics reported on Wednesday.
The Israeli military confirmed the drone “fell in the area of Eilat” after air defenses failed to intercept it.
Officials said it remained unclear whether injuries came from the drone itself or attempted interception.
Authorities Warn Civilians to Stay Away
Police deployed bomb disposal teams to examine the drone and urged the public to avoid the crash site.
They warned residents not to touch any debris, which could contain explosives.
Emergency services reported two people sustained serious injuries, while others suffered minor wounds.
Houthi Attacks Escalate Regional Tensions
Iran-backed Houthi rebels have fired drones and missiles at Israel since the war in Gaza began.
The group also struck Red Sea shipping lanes, forcing major carriers like Maersk and MSC to reroute.
Israel and the United States launched retaliatory strikes on Yemen, killing Houthi leaders and damaging infrastructure.
